Steamed Idli
Idli is a soft and fluffy South Indian steamed dish made from a fermented batter of rice and lentils. Light, healthy, and easy to digest, it makes a perfect breakfast or snack. Traditionally served with chutney and sambar, it’s both nutritious and satisfying.
Ingredients:
- Rice (typically parboiled or idli rice)
- Urad dal (split black gram lentils)
- Water (for soaking and batter)
- Salt (to taste)
- Fenugreek seeds (a small pinch)
Recipe:
- Wash and soak rice and urad dal separately for 4–6 hours.
- Grind urad dal into a smooth, fluffy batter.
- Grind rice into a slightly coarse batter and mix with urad dal batter.
- Add salt and mix well; let the batter ferment overnight.
- Grease idli molds and pour the fermented batter into them.
- Steam the idlis in a steamer or idli cooker for 10–15 minutes.
- Remove idlis from molds and serve hot with chutney and sambar.
